I love to read fantasy, scifi, YA, and MG. I also write books and have a YouTube channel (TheREDBooks) on which I discuss what I'm writing and what I'm reading :)

Wither (Chemical Garden)

Wither (Chemical Garden) - Lauren DeStefano I expected to love this book. Unfortunately, I only just liked it. Of course, it’s my own fault my expectations were so high since others had told me that it hadn’t lived up to their expectations either. Still, I was a little disappointed. That being said, I did enjoy Wither and will definitely be looking forward to the sequel. I may have enjoyed it more if I wasn’t expecting an exciting book with a heart-pounding climax and a rip-your-hair-out cliffhanger ending. If I had simply been expecting a story about a girl who is thrust into a marriage that she didn’t want to a person who isn’t as evil as she originally though, then I wouldn’t have been disappointed. I love books that are simply about characters going through difficult times in a world different from my own. I like reading about worlds that I don’t know. That’s why I read speculative fiction. It was probably the label of “dystopian” that caused me to expect some thrilling action/adventure story. Ever since reading The Hunger Games, that’s what I think of when I encounter that genre. This was more of a quiet, calm dystopian, which is perfectly fine and something that I can definitely enjoy, and I did.So I definitely do recommend this book it was beautifully written and I couldn’t help but fall in love with the characters. They live in a very interesting world and are thrust into very interesting situations. The ending may be a bit predictable, but it is also beautiful.More can be found on my blog: http://irissel.blogspot.com
